Semaglutide
How to inject Semaglutide Injection? Your All-in-One Guide
Semaglutide helps control blood sugar and reduce weight by mimicking GLP-1. Proper injection technique and site selection are essential for effectiveness and comfort.

What is Semaglutide and How Does It Work?
Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, regulates blood sugar and appetite. It controls glucose in type 2 diabetes and supports weight loss by reducing hunger and increasing fullness. Subcutaneous injection ensures gradual absorption for long-term effectiveness.
Where to Inject Semaglutide?
The manufacturer recommends subcutaneous injection on the stomach, upper arm, or thigh. Avoid damaged, swollen, or scarred skin areas, and never inject into muscle or veins. Rotating injection sites reduces the risk of skin reactions.
Abdomen
The abdomen is the preferred site for most patients, offering large surface area for rotation, easy accessibility for self-injection, and consistent absorption through fatty tissue. Stay two inches from the belly button to prevent over-injection in one area.
Arm
The upper arm back provides a consistent fat layer. However, self-injection may be difficult, making this site better suited for those with professional assistance or home support.
Thighs
The upper third of the thigh is safe and effective, particularly for those experiencing stomach tenderness. Easy rotation between left and right sides ensures even distribution.

Organize Your Supplies
Wash hands and inspect medication. The liquid must be clear and colorless — discard if cloudy, discolored, or contains particles.
Gather necessary supplies:
- Pen
- New disposable pen needles
- Alcohol swabs
- Bandage and gauze (optional)
- Sharps container
Store unused pens refrigerated (36°F–46°F). Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before first use to reduce injection discomfort.
Injection Steps
- Select the injection site: stomach, thigh, or upper arm
- Clean the injection site with an alcohol wipe
- Hold the syringe at a 90-degree angle to skin
- Insert the needle swiftly and steadily
- Inject medication and hold for several seconds (count to six) before removing
Ensure visibility of the dose counter without touching it. After slowly counting to six, remove the needle. Early removal may result in incomplete dosing.
Dispose
Dispose of used needles safely in a hard, closed container that cannot be punctured. Keep away from children and pets.
